The Truckee remains in great shape and is fishing very well. The water is starting to cool off and fall conditions are starting to take shape.
California - The River is a little low through the town of Truckee. It is at 88 CFS coming out of Lake Tahoe and 109 CFS in the town of Truckee. This section is low and clear so a more stealthy approach is a must. These are great flows for dry dropper set-ups. Most of the water in the River is being released out of Boca Reservoir and anywhere upstream of where the Little Truckee comes in is going to be low. The canyon section is around 495 CFS and is in great shape. Fall bugs like October Caddis and Baetis are starting to show up. Nymphing with October Caddis Bottom Rollers and a dark dropper like a Mighty May Baetis is a good way to go. Crayfish patterns and Stoneflies are also worth a try. Small Sculpin or Muddler patterns can be used for streamers. Check the Flows.
Nevada - The flows are still around the 380 CFS area. This has been one of the best years in recent memory on the Nevada side of the Truckee. The best part is the best is yet to come. The water is cooling off and the fish are very active. Reno Fly Shop guides have had numerous clients catch both Rainbows and Brown Trout over 20 inches in the past few weeks. Stoneflies in sizes 6-12 have been the go to fly with a small Caddis as a dropper. Book a Trip.
