Excellent Smith River Steelhead Fishing
Smith River steelhead fishing has been great for the past week. January and February are the best months to catch California's largest steelhead in the Smith river, and this year has been no exception.

Just yesterday, Tim and Susan Carlin landed chrome-bright steelhead in the 18-20 lb class while fishing with Kevin Brock in the Smith River. The steelhead are being caught on natural-color Pro-Cure Roe with a pink puff ball, with 8- or 10-pound test P-Line fluorocarbon leader with a No. 4 Owner hook.

There are lots of fish in the system, and the DIDSON sonar fish counter at Fred Haight boat launch is reporting hundreds of steelhead migrating past on some days. Depending on rainfall, the fishing on the Smith River should stay good at least through the end of February.
