Expect Harrison Pass to be closed due to snow and anglers should plan on accessing the Refuge through Secret Pass. Last week, the collection ditch was about 80% ice covered, but due to the warm weather it is now about 50% ice free. However, expect it to start icing up next week with the projected cold weather. As a general rule anglers can almost always find some open water here due to flows and the numerous springs even during very cold weather. The problem is keeping the ice out of your guides. From about mid-December until late March is the best time to fish the ditch for large trout. While fishing can be very slow during this time of year, those patient enough may find themselves landing a trophy trout.
