We had rainy weather on Friday and Saturday but then on Sunday the sun came out with temps in the mid 70s to the low 80s. With the weather warming up this made for some great fishing conditions, we seen Stripe Bass, Catfish, Black Bass and trout. We had Mt Lassen plant 750 lbs of Trout. They did this on 05/09/2016, so we do have plenty of Trout to catch.
Again the hot bite this week has been Striped Bass with many anglers from shore and boat limiting out. Most anglers are catching them out at the dam on anchovies fishing about 20-30 feet deep. If you fish from shore we recommend walking down the Dog Run Trail and try to get your bait in deeper water. Best baits to use would either be anchovies, sardines, or mackerel.
Black Bass are still steady with many anglers reporting catches. If you target them look for any Thule patch or fallen tree bass love cover, try throwing either a roboworm or a senko, also shallow running crankbaits have been hitting pretty good. Most of the bass we’ve heard being caught have been in swallow bay in the different coves.
Catfish are starting to show back up with many people catching these whiskers from 3-7 LBS some anglers are catching some big ones up to 17 LBS. If you target catfish look for cover, big fallen trees, weed beds, etc. best baits have been anchovies, chicken liver and sardines.
With the warm water we have, trout have been real slow. We did plant 750 LBS of Lassens this week so we are expecting the bite to pick up real soon. If you target them try to find some deeper water around 15-20 feet, you might also have to venture into the different coves we have as well. Best baits to use have been garlic power bait or nightcrawlers, if you want to use lures try deeper diving jerkbaits.
