Pyramid Lake
The fishing at Pyramid Lake has been as sporadic as the weather. True to form during the stormier periods the fishing has been more consistent. Not to say you can’t pick up fish during calm weather it is just at its best when clouds and wind provide some comfort and cover for the trout to feed in closer to shore.
Mike Anderson, our in-house Pyramid Lake guide, has been consistently putting clients on fish during the early morning hours and then later in the day. If you are interested in booking a trip call soon to get on the calendar as it is filling up.
Flies: Dead Pool and Spanish Olive Boobies, Bellyache Minnow #1/0, Deep Six, Midnight Cowboy, Pilot Nymph, Balanced Leech peacock and diablo
Main Truckee River – (between the Little Truckee Confluence and downtown Reno)
We got a really nice bump in flows during that last storm and it really freshened things up on the Big Truckee. Fish are spread out throughout the system and are eager to take a fly. Streamers and larger nymphs seem to be the flies of choice now. However a cloudy day with showers can be an amazing time on the Big T and tributaries for the Baetis and BWO hatches. Throwing big streamers will often trigger strikes this time of year.
CURRENT TRUCKEE RIVER FLOWS AT FARAD GAGE (NEAR FLORISTON)
Brown trout have begun their spawn have begun to stack up on their reds. Please leave these fish alone as they are protecting and adding to future fish populations. Take care when crossing the river near tailout of pools kicking up sediment can disturb spawning fish and destroy reds.
