Three Rivers is getting some hatchery steelhead back. Cedar Creek hatchery recycled 80 fish from their trap last week, and there were some decent catch reports despite poor weather last week. As of this writing, the rain was falling hard, and the North Coast Rivers were on the way up and looking like they would probably blow out by Tuesday morning. Three Rivers should come back in by mid-week if not sooner. Drift fishing is usually the go to technique on Three Rivers, but casting spinners and float fishing can be effective also.
The lower main stem Nestucca may be blown out for a few days but the hydrograph predictions show it back in shape by late in the week and good through the weekend. The lower river should be picking up for these early hatchery steelhead as the high waters recede, and the first of the brood stock hatchery run should start to trickle in soon. All the usual techniques such as side drifting, float fishing, and pulling plugs or divers and bait, should be effective.
Chinook fishing is mostly done on the Nestucca, although we’ve heard reports of at least a couple late fish still being caught.
