The Sacramento River levels around the Colusa, Ca area has been on a week long drop. And the river conditions have become much more favorable for sturgeon fishing up in the spawning gounds above and below Colusa, Ca. Night trips have been producing an average of three oppertunities an outing for Sacramento River sturgeon fishing guide Mike Rasmussen with SalmonSacRiver.com .  "Now that the river has finally cleared up as far as debri so big floating down the swollen river that night trips were almost always out of the question until this last week. It just wasn't safe to be out there" Reports the decade long Sacramento River fishing guide. Rasmussen reported having two night trips this past week and one day trip where his client lost three sturgeon durring battle. Two of which were oversized, on March 29, 2017. The two night trips this week both produced keeper slot fish to 57 inches. On March 28, 2017 Rasmussen and deckhand Ryan Tripp took out three PG&E employees for a night trip fishing for white sturgeon. Deckhand Ryan Trip hooked a 57 inch dino while back bouncing eel and handed the rod off to Noal Childs from Capay, Ca who did a excellent job fighting and landing this larger sized slot fish. In the early am hours of April 2, 2017 Rasmussen's other sturgeon clients for the week were a couple who fished together frequently from Anderson, Ca. Odina Aguirre and Jason Thomas, who had booked a night trip for its more quiet and private atmosphere. Neither of the pair had ever hooked, landed, or fought a sturgeon before and their wishes came true at 4:00am when Rasmussen had a pile worm choked by a 51 inch keeper as the night wound down.  For a little bonus action and because daylight was only 30 mins away Rasmussen invited the two anglers to join him for a early morning striper bite. The couple ended up catching their limit of striped bass to 22 inches by 7:30am and the trip ended at 8:00am.  Mike's Guide Service herre in Colusa, Ca gets all his bait from kittlesoutdoors.com, which has kept Rasmussen stocked and ready to go and stay on the river as is sometimes needed.  Mike likes using eel and night crawler combo along with pile worms for most of his bait rods that are soaking behind the anchored jet boat.

The relentless North Wind has been making staying on anchor much harder then usual. This week ahead is suposed to bring high water from a 7 ft river rise schedualled to take place Saturday April 8, 2027 after a very strong Pacific Storm. Which will shuffle the playing cards for the white sturgeon on the Sacramento River. The sturgeon run on the Sacrametno River is at its peak and great river action can be expected as water conditions improve after this weeks upcoming rain storm. To book a trip on the beautiful night time back drop of the Sacramento River call Mike Rasmussen at (530) 722 8876. Availabilities are still open for most night trip dates, and day trips can be arranged for people not used to being on the river in windy conditions. Hope to see you all out there in the near future.

Mike has called Northern California home his whole life. Fishing the streams of the eastern sierras for trout and the Russian river for steelhead as a young boy, his passion for fishing and the outdoors consumed his childhood as knowledge was gained. Attending high school in Corning, Ca, Mike also spent a great deal of time on the banks of the Sacramento river, chasing Salmon, Steelhead, American Shad and Striped Bass. Mike was fortunate enough to have been taught by some experienced guides that have since passed. Now a guide himself over the last decade, he prides himself on providing a comfortable, fun and enjoyable experience for all those he guides. You will not find another guide in Northern California as devoted as Mike and that spends the amount of time on the water as he does. It definitely shows at the end of the day when the fish are counted.
