Cutthroat Spotted Above the Bridge!
Owens River - Section 3 - Upper (above Crowley) - Eastern Sierra, CA (Mono County)
Great friend and client Larry Souza had to go deep into his bag of trips to get some fish on the Upper Owens. Shown here tight to a nice rainbow. It’s been tough this spring on the UO with very few migratory fish moving up from Crowley.

Some new cutthroat have been spotted above the bridge here. Water looks decent above Hot Creek but very stained with lots of floating junk below. The fish are quite spooky and will take a bit of a stealthy approach to to catch. They should get used to the shadows and anglers as more fish move in. Take care to avoid the light colored depressions in the gravel as these indicate the spawning beds. Some smaller rainbows and browns now throughout the river. Fishing egg patterns and Level Leeches best for targeting the big cutthroat currently.
