The Key is Depth!

The opener at Pyramid Lake has finally arrived! Fish are in deeper water due to the 68-70 degree surface temps. This has the fish holding in 20 to 30 feet of water. A float tube or boat is the most effective way to fish for these monster trout right now as fish are only intermittently coming into the shallows to eat. There is bait everywhere and those who find the bait balls catch fish. We are using streamer patterns with a booby flies behind it and moving them quickly as the LCT are really keying in on movement. The north and south sides of the lake both fished well. The key is depth! Make sure to count down your shooting head as it sinks. Fish are holding at specific depths and are not varying from that much. You don’t want to hook a fish without being able to quickly repeat the depth that the fish are at the next cast.
