Steelhead season on the west coast has finally arrived, the rivers are clearing up and the ones that have been fishable the last few days have been pretty good. Pro Guide Mario Gomez of Ironhead Guide Service has day’s available next week Monday through Thursday so call now to get in on the action.
Ironhead Guide Service will be fishing the coastal rivers in NorCal and southern Oregon for the next week then will be off to the Umpqua River for the annual Umpqua Fishery Enhancement Derby. The peak of the winter steelhead the season is upon us, the weather and the river conditions look amazing for the next 10 days so if you have been watching the gauges and waiting for the right time to go than BOOK NOW.
Here are some things to consider when trying to decide where to go fishing. The Smith River offers the opportunity to catch big wild steelhead in the redwoods and every cast you make could end up in the mouth of the next state record. The Chetco River is a smaller steam that contains some hatchery fish so if you want to eat a fish it’s a good spot to try your luck. The Klamath River is hands down the best action you will find when looking for a steelhead destination. The Umpqua River is the spot to go if you are looking to join the 20 pound club, more steelhead get caught that weigh over 20 pounds on the Umpqua annually than any other river on the west coast. The Rogue River has a decent run of hatchery fish as well so it’s another good spot to try if you want to eat what you catch.
