East Walker River
The East is still running at about 300 cfs right now and the fishing has been holding out pretty good. It can be a little difficult to get your flies down near the bottom where they need to be but if you add some weight and get them down there you should be able to have some success. There’s good numbers of some pretty good fish being caught, some stretching the tape at well over 20 inches. Nymphing has still been the best technique, but the streamer action has picked up a bit this week too. The Rosachi section in Nevada is also fishing pretty well and the crowds are much lighter.
Recommended Flies:
Rubberlegs, rainbow warrior, silver streak, micro stone, poxyback stone, Darth baetis, pheasant tail, dark lord, radiation baetis, prince nymphs, san juan worm, zebra midge, top secret midge, flashback emerger, sculpzilla, peanut envy, dali lama, zuddler, double bunny, dead drift crayfish.
Sceirine Ranch
The ranch fished very well this week with lots of nice fish being caught down there. Streamers, nymphs and San Juan worms all did great this week and the flows didn’t seem to hinder the anglers down there at all. Heard some stories of some huge fish being broken off on the ranch as well as some fish up to around 22” being landed.
Hunewill Pond
The pond is still fishing very well, lots of leech action as well as dry/dropper action. There are some weedy areas on the pond right now but there’s plenty of water to fish without getting into the weeds too much. Most anglers are still reporting 15 to 20 fish per day with most of them being in the 14 to 18 inch range.
Bridgeport Reservoir
The opener on Bridgeport produced pretty good numbers of fish for most of the anglers out there. It sounds like the trolling was the best with anglers reporting fish being caught on needlefish, Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants, nightcrawlers, Tazmanian Devils etc. There were lots of browns caught with the largest one we saw weighing in at 6.5 pounds. There were also lots of rainbows caught ranging in size from 1 to 5+ pounds. There were also some pretty good perch caught yesterday as well, some up to 2 pounds. The shore anglers reported getting into some good fish down near the dam casting lures and some on bait. The bait anglers did the best with mice tails, power bait and inflated night crawlers.
Kirman Lake
Didn’t get any reports from Kirman yet, if we hear anything we’ll let you know.
Twin Lakes
Though we haven’t seen any double digit browns from the Twins yet there were lots of nice fish caught up there with some going nearly 6 pounds. Successful bait anglers were using mice tails, power bait and crawlers, while lure anglers did the best with Rapalas, needlefish and kastmasters. There were some good fish caught from the shore but it seemed like the anglers out in boats did the best.
West Walker River
We didn’t get any reports from the West yesterday but we did hear that it’s running very high and dirty, the snow is melting pretty fast up above so it’s in full run-off mode right now.
Virginia Lakes
We had some great reports from both Big and Little V from anglers fishing through the ice, mostly fishing bait with fish up to 4+ pounds making a showing. It sounds like the ice is about 5 feet thick right now so the ice fishing should hold out up there for a while.
