What a difference a few weeks makes – the snow in the parking lot is almost gone. The open water showing is getting larger and larger and the Inlets are starting to go ice-free, but it’s still tough fishing.

Jared of Parchers Resort & South Lake is reporting bad ice at South Lake. Not sure if there is any fishable open water or not. I’ll keep checking and let you know next week. Intake 2 is wide open and the easiest to fish right now. Just talked with a gentleman that hiked to North Lake - you would be walking on snow and dodging boulders on the road - the gate is still locked. There was still a bit of ice on the Lake at the outlet end and fishing was slow.

Hoping, the Café will open on Friday, May 10th (if we pass all the state and county hurdles) thru Sunday, May 12th and then open for the season on May 17th  - hours change then to 7 days a week from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 11am and lunch from 11:00am to 4:00pm. We are currently closed on Wednesdays.

It will be a few weeks before Department of Fish and WildLife get down to the Lake to stock – stay tuned.

The trail to the lakes in Sabrina Basin is still covered in a foot or so of snow and as I watched a man walk today (Monday) from across the Lake on the trail - doesn't look like too much fun. There are foot tracks about 3-6 inches deep and in the morning it's a bit icy and afternoon, a bit slushy. The Lakes up yonder in the basin are more than likely iced-over.

Spring was in the air and basically still is although we have a chance of snow or rain showers for the next week and a half or so – more on that later. The Pussy Willows have popped out and the yellow Columbine is starting to bush out. Even the Rhubarb pushed thru and there are red stalks and green leaves – shouldn’t be too long till it’s ready for pie.

Make sure you wear some kind of sun protection – the sun and reflection off the snow, ice and water will do a number on your skin and eyeballs! AND DON’T FORGET A JACKET!

Once again we’ll be having some Spring weather. Here is the forecast for the week from www.weather.gov (enter Aspendell, CA in the search and scroll down to see the temps).
