EAST WALKER RIVER
The East is running at about 440 cfs right now, this flow is still a little high but anglers are reporting hooking decent numbers of fish still. The fish are difficult to land at this flow but there are eating! As the flows come down throughout the summer the fishing down there should keep getting better and better. Most of the hook-ups have been with nymphs but there should still be some action with streamers as well. The caddis are hatching now so you can go with caddis nymphs as well.
Recommended Flies:
Rubberlegs, darth baetis, rainbow warrior, silver streak, radiation baetis, buckskin caddis, crawling caddis, LaFontaines sparkle pupa, Fox’s poopah, pheasant tail, dead drift crayfish, hell razor craw, zuddler, dali lama, double bunny, sculpzilla, san juan worm, squirmy wormy.
SCEIRINE RANCH
We haven’t had any clients on the ranch this past week, like the California side the fishing can be difficult but could definitely be worth the trip!
HUNEWILL POND
We had several anglers on the pond this week and several mixed reports coming back from them. There is a lot of damsel action on the pond right now and the successful anglers did the best with adult damsel patterns as well as damsel nymphs. There were a couple anglers who struggled to get any hook-ups but others were able to get into between 3 and 10 fish per half day. The weeds are a bit of a nuisence but not so much yet as to make the pond unfishable. The calendar is fairly clear this coming week so if you want to get out there just give us a call.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
Bridgeport is still kicking out a bunch of nice fish in the 2 to 5 pound range, both trolling and bait fishing. The shore fishing is pretty tough but the anglers getting out on the water in boats are doing well. Out in front of the marina is a good area as well as Rainbow Point and some fish are being caught up in Buckeye Bay. Bait anglers are using powerbait, inflated crawlers, mice tails and pinched crawlers while trolling has been good with Rapalas, Thomas bouyants, needlefish and night crawlers. We haven’t had much news from any fly anglers fishing the Reservoir lately but there should be some streamer action and possible some stillwater nymphing up in the channels by now.
KIRMAN LAKE
Well, I talked to an angler who made the trek up to Kirman earlier this week and he told me that he caught two small brookies! They were only about 12 or 14 inches long but at least there are signs of life up there! Hopefully things are looking up for this once famous piece of water!
TWIN LAKES
The Twins have produced some nice fish this past week with rainbows up to nearly 6 pounds and browns to nearly 4 making a showing. There has been some action trolling with kastmasters, needlefish, Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants as well as some bait fishing success with mice tails, powerbait and inflated crawlers. Fly anglers should do well with streamers like matukas, Twin Lakes Specials and wooly buggers with soft hackle and zug bug droppers.
WEST WALKER RIVER
The flows on the West are back up again, it’s running very high and muddy right now. It may be a few weeks before the flows come down up there.
VIRGINIA LAKES
The Virginias are still kicking out some good fish too. Bait anglers are reporting doing well with pinched crawlers, mice tails and night crawlers, lure anglers are doing the best earlier in the mornings and late evenings with Thomas Bouyants, kastmasters and Panther Martins. Fly anglers are catching fish with matukas, seal buggers, wooly buggers, leech patterns and soft hackles.
