EAST WALKER RIVER
The East is still running at about 230 cfs right now. We’ve had some good reports and some slower reports this week. The weather hasn’t cooled down as much as it should have by this time of the year, the mornings are cold but the days are still hot. We got a couple really good reports from the lower section of the river, down below the bridge this week which was nice. It’s still mainly nymphing, the streamer action still hasn’t taken off too much but it should be soon. A couple of the reports we received were from anglers who had 20 to 30 fish days, mostly smaller fish in the 12 to 16 inch range but a few in the 16 to 20 range thrown in. The way the river is right now, there’s good opportunity to get into some good numbers of fish as well as some good quality fish if you get your drifts right and your bugs down near the bottom.
Patterns to try: san juan worm, squirmie wormy, rainbow warrior, silver streak, dark lord, WD-40, micro mayfly, radiation baetis, LaFontaines deep sparkle pupa, Fox’s poopah, z-wing caddis, buckskin caddis, rubberlegs, dead drift crayfish, zuddler, dali lama, double bunny.
SCEIRINE RANCH
The ranch is still fishing pretty well, we’ve had mostly good reports from down there. They’re still eating some rubber legs, San Juan worms, squirmy wormy’s, dark lords and soft hackles. As the flows drop over the next few weeks the fishing down there should just keep getting better. There are some really good fish hanging out on the ranch as well, some well over 20”.
HUNEWILL POND
We had a couple mixed reports from the pond this week, the weeds have grown up quite a bit which was not good for some anglers, others however had good days with dry flies in spite of the weeds. Most of the fish caught were in the 16 to 18 inch range. When it does finally get a little cooler, the weeds will start to go away and the fishing should be great out there again!
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
The Reservoir has been a little on the tough side this past week though there are still pretty good numbers of perch being caught as well as some nice rainbows here and there. There has also been some reports of some good browns being caught, a couple up to around 4 pounds, most of the browns we’ve been hearing about have been released. The best perch fishing has been trolling small Rapalas, crawlers and needlefish while the best bait fishing has been off of Rainbow Point and out in front of the marina in the East Walker channel with inflated crawlers, powerbait and pinched crawlers.
KIRMAN LAKE
Didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, we’ll keep you posted when we do.
TWIN LAKES
Like Bridgeport, the Twins have been a little tough lately, still waiting for the water temps to drop and the fish to come up a bit where they’re easier to reach. There has been some decent reports from some anglers working the shoreline with lures early in the morning or late in the evening and then some decent bait fishing here and there with crawlers and power bait.
WEST WALKER RIVER
The West was stocked last week so there’s some good pockets here and there that are holding fish, the fly anglers are having some success with hopper and ant patterns as well as some attractor nymphs like princes and pheasant tails. Bait anglers are getting into some fish with salmon eggs and baby crawlers. Mornings and evenings have produced some fish for lure anglers with panther martins and vibrax spinners.
VIRGINIA LAKES
The Virginias have still been a little tough lately with limited success on bait and some flies. The best way to fish lately has been to get out away from the shore in a kayak or float tube and fish the deeper areas of the lakes. Drifting small crawlers and pinched crawlers has produced some fish and jigging small Sierra Slammers and Trout Teasers has kicked out some fish as well. Early and late in the day there’s been some action with Rooster Tails and Kastmasters.

RANDOM INFORMATION:
Sept. 15, 2019 - The DFW is done with this round of transplanting, sounds like their totals were right around 850 brookies from Silver Creek to Kirman, nothing over 6 or 7 inches. They’re coming back later next month for another go around so hopefully there will be another good batch of brookies making the trip.
Sept. 8, 2019 - The DFW is in the process of transplanting some brook trout from Silver Creek to Kirman Lake like they did last year, as of today they had transplanted over 500 fish and they still have 4 or 5 days to go. Unfortunately it sounds like Kirman will not get an allottment of fingerling brooks this year but we did hear that there was a load of cutthroat put in there last October, and maybe they’ll get some more this year. We’ll let you know if we hear anything.
