Winter steelhead fishing has slowed down on the bank sections of the NF Alsea River as the water is getting low and clear. Fish are still being caught everyday but it has slowed down compared to the last few weeks.
The mainstem Alsea is back in shape and the fishing has picked up and been good for the drift boaters on those sections. Drift boaters are now catching them on all the drifts throughout the system. The later returning wild broodstock fish are beginning to show up and they will continue to provide opportunity through March.
**Reminder**
No overnight camping is allowed in vehicles around the NF Alsea hatchery in the parking lot or on any of the roads.
The Alsea River receives two different stocks of hatchery steelhead, one “traditional” stock that is an early returner and peaks in December/January and a later returning wild broodstock that peaks January-March. These two stocks combine to provide winter steelhead fishing opportunities from late November through March.
Trout fishing in streams will reopen on May 22, 2020.
