We started out our morning by heading up the river arm and started out on the steep rock walls found up there. After looking around on side imaging I was able to find a nice school of bass suspended around 30’. We started working the school with reaction baits with little luck and switched over to finesse approaches with small shad imitations on drop shot working the best. We moved further towards the main lake and started fishing outside of spawning flats in the 15-20’ range looking for fish that might have started staging for the spawn. It took some time to find fish that wanted to cooperate but we were finally able to find some better quality fish. 1/2oz Canopy Grenades jigs paired with Yamamoto twin tails produced the best bites of the day for me.
The bite seemed to taper off after noon so we decided to make our final move to fish deeper main lake points. Focusing on areas with shade we were able to fool some nice spots in the 2.5-3.5lb range with X-Zone True center sticks nail weighted and shakey heads with Oxblood worms seeming to be the most consistent producers. Overall fishing wasn’t bad and we finished the day with just over 18lbs for our best 5. With the water temps steadily rising the lakes are going to be going crazy soon so make sure you get out there and enjoy the beautiful weather and the fun fishing that comes with springtime here in California.
