East Walker River
In these trying pandemic / quarentine times, here’s a few things that did not happen on the river this week: we did not get reports from 10 or 12 anglers this week, we did not hear from anyone who caught any nice fish in the 15 to 20 inch range, we did not talk to one angler who lost a 25” plus brown at the net, we did not talk to any anglers who had 15 to 20 fish days on the Rosachi section in Nevada, we did not talk to any anglers who had 15 to 20 fish days in both the upper and lower sections of the California side. We did not talk to any anglers who may or may not have caught fish with small midge patterns either under indicators or high sticking. We did not talk to any anglers who may or may not have seen some large stoneflies coming off on the Nevada side, and we certainly did not talk to any anglers who did not catch any fish on adult stonefly patterns with droppers.
Here are some fly patterns you should not try while you are not fishing on the East: Poxyback stone, rubber legs, micro stone, flashback emerger (BWO and PMD), prince nymph, soft emerger, top secret midge, WD-40, psycho prince, squirmy wormy, rainbow warrior, silver streak, San Juan worm, zebra midge, stimulator, chubby chernobyl, hippie stomper, zuddler, moal leech.
Sceirine Ranch
We also did not have a few clients on the Sceirine this week, they did not do well with rubber legs, san juans, poxyback stones, soft hackles and rainbow warriors while they were not there.
Hunewill Pond
We did not have one angler go to the pond this week to see if it was still frozen and see how the fish got through the winter. The angler that did not go out there did not catch several fish in the 18” range with soft hackles even while the wind may or may not have been blowing.

Random Information
Social media is a wonderful thing, it affords a lot of people the opportunity to spread a lot of hate from the security of their own quarantine. All I can say is that I look forward to the time when this virus passes and y’all can come back to the Sierra to fish, camp, hunt and otherwise recreate. Lets all keep washing our hands, keep a safe distance from others, wear your mask, try to be kind to your fellow humans, and perhaps most of all, try not to lose your sense of humor during all of this. PEACE.
In all seriousness, Mono County has issued an “order” for all campgrounds, lodging and “ non essential" businesses to remain closed at least until May 31, 2020, they have issued this order under threat of fines and jail time. I’m sure there is not a business in the Eastern Sierra who does not want to be open for fishing season. I’m also sure that there is not a business in the Eastern Sierra who would want to put anyones health and safety at unnecessary risk. Try to keep in mind when you hear of businesses that are not opening on their regular schedule that it’s not because they don’t want tourists to travel to the Sierra, it’s because they want tourists to travel to the Sierra when it’s safe and healthy to do so. The quicker the virus is contained the quicker we’ll all be able to get out and fish. Please be safe, please be healthy.
