With PG&E, Forest Service, State Parks and many private concessionaire campgrounds and day use areas remaining closed, fishing in the Burney-Hat Creek region is still relatively quiet and left mainly to local residents. Access to the Baum Lake parking lot and ramp remains closed as well with some anglers parking on the road and walking into the lake area. The Cassel Forebay is open to anglers but again the supporting campground is closed. Creekside turnouts along Highway 89 and Upper Hat are also popular with local anglers who hope the stocking truck had been by recently.
The CDFW is not updating any stocking information online, the reasoning is to keep out of the area anglers from converging into a just stocked area. It is not known if or when any waters in the area has been planted. The rule of the day remains social distancing and if recreating outdoors doing so close to home.
Living in Shasta County the outlook is getting better every day as there has not been a new Covid-19 case in over 10 days. Hopefully this trend continues and restrictions are lessened. I think it will be a while before we realize what will be the new normal.
