-Trail Conditions--
Still peak summer hiking conditions out on the trails. Thru-hiking is much quieter this year so the trails in this canyon don’t seem as crowded as some of the other areas to our north. Favorite day hikes for our guests have been the Chocolate Lake Loop, Treasure lakes and the Lamarck Lakes. It also seems as though the overall pressure up here has lightened over the past week or so, which is great because if feels about as close to “normal” as you can get in 2020

Be advised that they’re still working on the road and trailhead parking still paving work being done up at the Bishop Pass Trailhead and overnight parking is still prohibited where signs are posted. Vehicles have and will be towed if they are in the way of paving operations. Overflow parking is available down by Surveyor’s Meadow. Make sure to watch for and obey the signage to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

--Fish Report-

--South Lake--
The lake level is holding steady just a few feet below full pool. The surface temps are up to the low 60’s which has driven some of the fish a bit deeper during the middle of the day. Early in the day the fish are up shallow but beyond 10am try a little deeper between 25ft and 35ft of depth. We recommend anchoring closer to shore and casting out into deeper water. It’s definitely a slower bite right now with quality over quantity. People aren’t catching huge numbers but your chances of sticking a pig are pretty good and will only get better over the next week.

The launch ramp is open most days for private boaters but parking can be an issue and they have periodically closed the ramp to do paving work. There is no schedule or any way of knowing so its just a blind gamble if you try to launch.

Hot Spots: Rock Slide, Inlets.
Hot Lures: Kastmasters, Roostertails, Sierra Slammer swimbaits in Sxy Shad, Grasshopper Jigs
Best Flies: Grasshoppers, Midges, Bead-Head Nymphs, Blank ants.
Best Baits: Berkley Micetails, Nightcrawlers, Garlic PB, Gulp Pinched Crawlers.
Trolling: Worms, needlefish, Thomas Buoyants between 5 - 10 colors.

--Road Work Update—
Major road work continues Monday thru Friday most weeks through October. The project is on schedule so sometimes they take Friday off. You can expect up to 30-minute delays in either direction and when leaving the resort. There is no road work on the weekends or holidays. These delays are admittedly very annoying, but for 2020 it’s not a big deal all things considered.

--Fish Stocking Update—
Fish from Idaho and Oregon are scheduled over the upcoming weeks so the bite should really pick up. The DFW hatcheries are offline and won’t be stocking for the remainder of the season. This likely means that the creek fishing will continue to be slow but the bite at Sabrina and South Lake should be pretty good for as long as we’re open.
