Truckee River

The Truckee River has changed a lot since the last report. Flows are down to 220 CFS at the downtown gauge and water temps are starting the day in the high 30s. The trout have acclimated to this change and the fishing has been good. You may need to change your tactics as low cold water will push the fish into slower water. The fish will move throughout the day so if you don’t find them in a likely spot don’t be afraid to try a new one.

Indicator setups have worked well, as has ESN, but drifting in slow water with an ESN rig can be difficult. I would personally have both styles ready to fish. With colder weather comes Baetis! One of the most prolific hatches through the year on the Truckee River. Several times we have seen fish rising to them on a cloudy day! Baetis are smaller dark mayflies [aka Blue Wing Olive and BWO]. Check out our new 0live Perdigon at the shop!

Flies we suggest: Perdigon, Carot, Spanish Bullet, Quill Jig, Hot Spot, CDC Red Tag, Bead Head Zebra Midge, Ready Baetis, Parachute Adams, Pullover BWO
