The Truckee River has been fishing well! We are really seeing fish activity pick up as the days get longer and water temperatures begin to rise between winter storms. Nymphing the slow to medium/slow water with indicators or with ESN techniques have all been effective. Fly selection is still small #16-#20, but we are catching fish on many different patterns in that size range.

Finally, passing storms have given us some overcast skies. This is the prime time of year to fish dry flies out east. Blue winged olives and midges are on the menu. Parachute Adams in a size #16 & #18 have worked well as have the Baetis Cripple and Griffiths Gnat. Fish have not been to picky with fly selection, focus more on perfecting your presentation and use patience to really let those fish settle in and rise consistently before casting to them.

Truckee River Flies We Suggest: Spanish Bullet, Quill Jig, Hot Spot, CDC Red Tag, Zebra Midge, Ready Baetis, Carot, Hot Butt, Baetis Cripple, Pullover BWO, Parachute Adams, Micro Mayfly, Truckee River Dozen
