Trout season opened May 22. The Elk River typically has cooler waters that many of the neighboring streams. But with low water conditions, water levels are lower than they typically are for this time of year. Anglers fishing for trout may want to focus their efforts on cooler waters in deeper pools and near tributaries. Please use caution to avoid any late migrating steelhead smolt on their way to the ocean.
