The Lower Deschutes has been fishing fairly well. There are still hoot owl regulations for the lower section of the river. Make sure to check the myodfw website for updates before you hit the water. Make sure to check water temperatures throughout the day. Once the water is warmer than 68 degrees, it’s time to give it a rest. Fishing is best in the mornings and evenings. Dry fly action is good mainly in the evening, but morning can be productive as well. Caddis are the star of the show, but pale morning duns are also out. Nymphing deep is working really well. Stonefly nymphs are great, as are caddis pupa and PMD nymphs. Temperatures are still hot, don’t get dehydrated and stay cool. The forecast shows more average temperatures on the way, hopefully the hottest part of the summer is behind us.
