The annual Buena Vista Trout Derby will be held November 20th, and Lake Evans will be closed several days prior to the derby. The event begins at 6am with over 1500 pounds of trout going into the lake a few days before the derby. Last year trout to 10 pounds were readily available for anglers who were rigged to land monster sized fish. Stop in and talk with the guys at Cope’s. They’ll get you all set up. Some of the best baits last year were, Minijigs, Mousetails, Dough Bait, and lures. Carolina rigs with a long leader seemed to produce larger trout, and don’t forget the garlic scent. Good luck!! Bass fishing has been fair for anglers using drop shot and Senkos near the Islands, and crappie continued to eat small live minnows and minijigs near structure. Catfish were fair last week for anglers using dip bait and chicken liver.
