I’ll cut right to it and admit that I am not a big midge fan. Never have been. Not sure what it is, part of me makes me feel like I am betraying the pure soul, style, and artistry of fly fishing by indirectly euro nymphing. Then again, we are hanging these midges under indicators and roping fish bigger that you would in any river…..so we will take it. Great midge action at the ‘Mid right now, and fish are hitting anywhere from the 4ft-9ft mark when they are in. Plenty of patterns are working, as a tip stick with hues that are red, wine, purple, and black….but plenty others are working too. Don’t be afraid to get your strip game on as well….Rick James is out there and the spring frenzy is slowly approaching. Beetles, buggers, and Yaks are all working. Strip early and late as a general rule of thumb, bit don’t be afraid to get at it when the indo action is slow.
Some trips still available for the spring, give Capt Robert at Pyramid Fly Co a call at 970.231.9609 and mention Bearfish. Get out there and get some!
