Trout fishing in the Upper Kern is decent for some and slower for others. The best action has been getting away from the crowds and finding the deeper holes. The river flows have been in the low 100’s and the water clarity is good. Spin-anglers can find holdovers and natives with split-shotted salmon eggs, crickets, and spinners. Fly anglers are doing best in the early morning with attractor nymphs and streamers. Dry flies are a good option for the late afternoons. In the Lower Kern the trout bite has been slow, but the Bass action has been very good. Bass can be found throughout the Lower Kern with Get Bent Baits, small crankbaits, and spinners. Catfish are coming on cut baits and nightcrawlers. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 133 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 514 CFS
