Hello fellow anglers. I have some exciting news to share with everyone. The last couple of years have been tough on us all. Many events have had to be cancelled due to Covid. The saddest of all have been the loss of our local kids fishing derbies. I have been in communication with the Lampe Park Kids Fishing derby committee, and I am happy to say, the derby for 2023 is on. But they need a little help from the community. They are putting together the committee for KFD 2023! and will be having their first meeting on Wednesday September 21st at 6pm at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. .There will be several positions to fill in order to get a great start on KFD 2023. So that it isn't overwhelming for an individual, This is where they will consider teams to fill these positions. The commitments for meetings are: One evening per month now till March, April is two evenings each month, and in May is every week. The following monthly meetings are usually held on a Wednesday evening at a Gardnerville location. Being an angler is not the only qualification to be a volunteer. The only qualification is a big heart, a big smile and to experience the joy on the kids faces during and after this event, is a payment you will keep for the rest of your life. I hope to see you there.

CAPLES LAKE:The water level has been going down a little. Fishing has been fair for boaters and shore anglers. The EID day use area is open for launching. Boats and kayak rentals are available at the Caple Lake resort.

BLUE LAKES: The water level is low but the fishing in the evening has been fair to good. Anglers have been using salmon eggs or inflated nightcrawlers.

WEST CARSON RIVER ALPINE COUNTY: Fishing has been slow, water levels have come down after the severe trains of a couple weeks ago. Best areas have been from Woodfords to Sorensons. Hit
those deeper pools and trailing waters.

EAST FORK CARSON RIVER ALPINE COUNTY: The flows are back to normal and the water has cleared up. Fishing has been tough, a few anglers have caught small rainbows with salmon eggs drifting the deeper pools.  I have not heard from the Fish Commission if they will be planting for Labor day weekend. For more info stop by the Carson River Resort.

HEENAN LAKE: Fishing will be open on September 1st through the last day in October. Catch and release only with artificial lures and flies with barbless hooks. Located on Monitor Pass.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Fishing the lake is not advised due to blue green algae. The lake right now is in the danger level. Do not allow pets to drink from the lake and do not swim in the lake. Campground area is closed.

WEST WALKER RIVER: Anglers have been doing very well in many areas south of the town of Walker. Drifting a power egg or throwing small spinners has been the most productive. I have seen a few limits of 12 to 16 inch trout come out over the last couple weeks.

TOPAZ LAKE: Fishing has been fair to slow. I recommend getting out as early as you can to beat the heat. Most trollers have gone deeper off the east and north shore. The water level has been going down slowly over the last couple weeks.

I will have a full report for you next week for Labor Day weekend. I hope to see you on the waters soon. Remember that the second free fishing day in California will be September 3rd.  Good fishin' and tight lines.

Good luck on your next fishing adventure. If you have a question. a report in our local fishing area or have a photo of your catch, send it to [email protected]. Hope to see you on the waters. Good fishin' and tight lines.
