Water Conditions

Low flows out of Lake Tahoe have the Truckee River warming up to the low sixties during the day. Over the next month — the cooler temperatures at night should help bring the water temperatures down even more. Cooler water will help the fishing improve with hatches of caddis and blue winged olives. The current best areas to fish are below Boca reservoir to stateline Nevada, this will change moving into October. The river is flowing at about 450 CFS there. Upper Truckee river is flowing around 30 CFS.

Tips for the Week

Indicator nymphing with a long leader, streamer fishing and some sporadic hatches mid day. Some blue winged olives, pale evening duns and caddis are the main fall hatches on the main Truckee. As our weather cools down, the trout on the Truckee River will move back into the pools more so than the riffles.
