EAST WALKER RIVER
The East is running at about 63 cfs right now, and the temps are down into the high 50’s and low 60’s. The water clarity is poor but getting a little clearer every day. We’re still getting some good reports on streamers like dad drift crayfish, razor craws, zuddlers and sculpzillas but most of the action seems to be coming on nymphs like perdigons, soft hackles, wd-40’s, flashback emergers, and pheasant tails. There are lots of fish in the 10 to 15 inch range being caught as well as good numbers of fish up to 18 or 20 inches. There’s also been some monster whitefish being caught, reports are that some of them are near 3 pounds.
SCEIRINE RANCH
The ranch has been fishing well, the water clarity is a bit better down there compared to the upper mile on the California side. Dead drift crayfish, razor craws, sculpzilla, soft hackles, copper johns and prince nymphs have all been doing well up there.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
We’re starting to see a little bit of activity on the Reservoir the past few days, the water is getting a little bit clearer each day and with this the fish are starting to get a little more active. I’d say that within the next week or so it should start to really liven up.
KIRMAN LAKE
We had quite a few really good reports from Kirman this week, it sounds like it’s (almost) back to how it was in the old days. We’ve actually had more than several reports of anglers having 30+ fish days up there. Small leech patterns and scud patterns have been doing the trick for most fly anglers and there’s been a coule spin anglers that have had really good days with mini jigs. Sometimes when the fish up there start to try to spawn the bite kind of slows down so now seems like a really good time to get up there!
TWIN LAKES
We’ve been getting lots of good reports from the Twins this week, it sounds like the shore anglers are doing very well with bait and some with lures and the trolling has been pretty good with Rapalas, speedy shiners and Thomas Bouyants. Haven’t heard much from the fly anglers but you should be able to strip some streamers near the inlets and do well.
WEST WALKER RIVER
The West has been doing well with salmon eggs and crawlers as well as panther martins and rooster tails for lures. The fly anglers are still haveing some success with copper johns, prince nymphs, soft hackles, hoppers and ants. It sounds like the best areas have been near the Sonora bridge on Hwy 108 and in the canyon section along Hwy 395.
VIRGINIA LAKES
The Virginias have been red hot this past week with lots of nice fish up to 6 pounds coming in as well as 1 rainbow that went over 9 pounds! They’re getting fish on mini jigs, Thomas Bouyants, Kastmasters, garlic power bait, pinched crawlers and mice tails. Fly anglers are using Mayers mini leeches, mini leeches Twin Lakes Specials and soft hackles.
