The pond suffered a fish kill due to low dissolved oxygen caused by monsoonal runoff through the Pipeline fire scar on 7/19/22 that flushed ash, sediment, and debris into the pond. As a result, Frances Short Pond will likely not be stocked for the remainder of the year. The City of Flagstaff is currently using the pond for flood mitigation and control and it was recently drained to reduce flooding impact to home and businesses downstream. It is difficult to say when conditions will be appropriate to stock Frances Short again. The limit is 2 bass minimum size 13 inches, the limit is 4 channel catfish, the limit is 5 sunfish.
