Winter steelhead fishing has been fair to good on the North Fork Nehalem but has slowed the past couple days. The North Fork gets a run of early returning hatchery winter steelhead that have been coming in for several weeks. There was a day of good fishing at the hatchery after the rain, but it has been slow early this week despite good water conditions. The North Fork is on the drop and may be low and clear by the weekend, but there should still be fish coming.
In addition to the early returning hatchery stock, we recently transitioned a portion of the hatchery winter steelhead in the North Fork to wild broodstock hatchery fish (hatchery fish from wild brood); these fish should just be starting to come back now and will be available in the fishery through early April
