The Lower Deschutes is closed from the Dam to the Northern boundary of the Warm Springs reservation until April 22. There is still lots of open water if you drive to Maupin and fish up to the locked gate. Nymphing will be the most consistent method of fishing and stoneflies, two-bits, nitro caddis, zebra midges and eggs will all be effective. Swinging a sculpin, leech, or crayfish pattern is also a fun and effective way to catch some fish. Focus your efforts on deep, slow moving pools and have some fun!
