The recent storms and high flows have slowed things this week. At the peak of the runoff, flows got as high as 48,000CFS. Hopefully, most of the trout didn’t get washed down stream into Isabella. The DFWL have scheduled trout plants here this week in the following sections: Section 4, Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville; Section 5, Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge; Section 6, Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge. Trout fishing in the Lower Kern remains steady throughout the canyon. The DFWL have trout plants scheduled here this week in the following sections: Section 1, Democrat Beach to Lower Richbar; Section 2, Sandy Flat to Democrat Beach. Trout can be caught with salmon eggs, pinched crawlers and minijigs. The Lower Kern smallmouth bass bite is fair with small crankbaits, spinners and Senkos. Catfish can be taken with cut baits and nightcrawlers. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River is flowing at 5797 CFS and the Lower Kern River is flowing at 2134 CFS.
