The Lower Deschutes has been fishing well. It's back in shape at 4070 CFS and clarity has improved greatly. The big bugs are still around so utilizing a dry-dropper setup is a good way to approach the river this time of year. Chubbys, Norm woods, Clarks Goldens, and many other Salmonfly and Golden Stone patterns will be effective top flies while two-bits, jig leeches, copper jons, and jigged princes have been good dropper nymphs. There are lots of caddis around as well now so having a good selection of caddis dries is a good idea. Swinging around a sculpin, crayfish, or leech is another fun way to cover some water and find some willing fish.
