EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is down to about 931 cfs right now. We’re starting to get a few more reports from the EW as there are a few more anglers having a go down there. The fishing is difficult and the wading is fairly dangerous but if you take care, don’t get in too deep, pick some of the softer water to work you should be able to pull some fish. Don’t overlook the water very near the banks as it will likely be movong somewhat slower than out in the middle and will likely be holding fish. Most of the successful anglers have been fishing streamers like hornbergs, perch jigs, ziwi’s, double bunnies and wooly buggers though there are a few anglers starting to have some success with nymphs like hare’s ears, prince nymphs, psycho princes and perdigon nymphs. Again, if you do venture to the East, be careful, pay attention to the water your fishing and stay safe.

SCEIRINE RANCH

We haven’ t had anyone on the ranch lately, hopefully when the flows come down at some point we will have some good reports for you.

HUNEWILL POND

The pond is still fishing very well with reports of lots of good fish up to nearly 25 inches! It sounds like 90% of the action lately has been with small leech patterns like a Mayor’s mini leech in either black or olive. There’s probably some other techniques that will likely work out there but most of the anglers we’ve talked to haven’t had much reason to switch from the leeches! Give us a call if you want to book some time on the pond!

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

THe reservoir is still producing some good fish both from the shore and boats. The trolling has been good with small Rapalas, night crawlers, speedy shiners and Thomas Bouyants while the bait anglers have been doing well with garlic power bait, pinched crawlers, inflated crawlers and mice tails. Shore anglers are still picking up some fish, mostly with bait but now and then on lures. We’ve seen fish up to around 5 or so pounds this week with lots of fish in the 1 pound class also being caught.

KIRMAN LAKE

Kirman is fishing pretty well lately, though we’ve had some reports of fish not getting active until afternoon the last few days, this is fairly unusual for Kirman but point being, don’t quit on it if it’s slow at first, keep plugging away and when they’re ready it will be game on! Scud patterns, as well as leech and damsel patterns have been doing the best up there. There is still a lot of water and mud over the road between Junction and Kirman so you’ll have to hit the sage brush to get around that but it’s not too bad to get around. Haven’t heard anything this year so far about any cutthroat, all the reports we’ve had have been brookies.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins are still producing lots of nice fish, some up to 5+ pounds. Shore anglers are enjoying some success with pinched crawlers, inflated crawlers and mice tails and a few fish are being caught with Kastmasters and Thomas Bouyants. Trolling has been good with Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants and speedy shiners. Lots of nice Kokanee being caught on the troll as well, they seem to be running a bit bigger this year with lots of them taping aroun 14 inches.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We haven’t heard any rumblings about the West lately, the water is very high and off color so it will likely be difficult to fish for a while. We’ll let you know when the conditions improve.

VIRGINIA LAKES

The Virginias are fishing well, Little V is ice free now, Big V still has a few icebergs floating around but they should be gone anytime, Trumbull is ice free though you’ll have to hike over some snow through the campground to get there. For bait you can try inflated crawlers, mice tails and power bait, for lures try Thomas Bouyants, small Rapalas, Sierra Slammers and Hook Up Baits. If you can get away from the shore in a kayak or tube that will be the best but you should still be able to pull some fish from the shore.
