Fishing is generally best when flows are below 3,000 cfs. Currently flows are around 1,000 cfs at the Waterloo gauge as of June 27. Summer steelhead numbers are still low and it looks to be another slow return year for these fish. About 190 fish have made it to Foster so far.
However, Willamette Falls counts are indicating a good spring Chinook run. So far over 18,600 adults have entered the upper Willamette basin as of June 22, with many of these fish destined for the South Santiam.
Anglers are reminded that only fin-clipped trout may be kept.
