Anglers have been reporting good trout fishing lately between Warm Springs, Mecca, Trout Creek and Maupin. Anglers are reporting good action on nymphs and excellent dry fly-fishing during evening hatches. Trout anglers reported slow fishing last week below Sherars Falls. ‌

The Deschutes River below White River was very murky last week due to snow melt from White River. Fishing was very slow as a result. The river has cleared up as of Oct. 9, but more rain is forecasted this week and temperatures are supposed to remain above freezing on Mt. Hood, meaning the Deschutes below White River could become murky again.‌

Prior to turbid water, salmon fishing at Sherars Falls was consistent, and anglers had been catching quite a few nice coho. Steelhead anglers have been successful near Maupin lately as fish move higher up in the system. There are still many steelhead in the lower river below Sherars, as well. ‌

The Deschutes Steelhead Fishery Framework was established in 2021 and defines standards for opening or closing the steelhead sport fishery. Based on counts of wild steelhead over Bonneville Dam, steelhead fishing will remain open on the Deschutes River in 2023. ‌

The Deschutes River below Moody Rapid is open for fishing
