Stocking: Another 1,500 pounds of Rainbow Trout from Idaho went into the lake last week bringing our total stock for the year to 16,000 pounds. DFW also brought us an additional 2,300 pounds this season. The next stocking of 1,500 pounds of Rainbow Trout will be the week of April 1st. Follow our Instagram feed for the most updated info regarding trout stocking.
What’s the Catch? It’s a good time of year to fish! With stocking last week, the trout was plentiful. Trout are hitting on hard baits in the deeper parts of the lake, but our rangers also saw trout coming out of Hermit Cove on Powerbaits and nightcrawlers. Schools were found in the main channel down the center of the lake easily reached by boat and fishing off of the end of the t-dock. Night fishing last weekend yielded catfish! Cats were pulled from the Siesta Cove shoreline and Shadow and Sentry Coves. Mackerel and chicken livers were tried and true. The bass bite continues on Texas Rig and Senkos. With the spawn, the bass will be close to shore.
Conditions: With the air temperatures warming up, so goes the water temperature. The surface is seeing temps around 62 degrees, whereas at the 50 foot depth water temps are hovering around 59 degrees. Could explain why the trout are moving a little deeper right now. With spring forward the sun is rising at 6:42 a.m. and setting at 7:05 p.m.
