EAST WALKER RIVER
The river is flowing at about 254 cfs today and is still fishing pretty well. It sounds like there’s some black stoneflies and some sallies coming off down there as well as tons of caddis of course. There’s still been some decent dry fly action in the evenings and the nymphing has been good throughout most of the day. It is getting a bit warmer around here so the bite seems to slow down a bit from around 11:00am to about 3 or 4:00pm, this is pretty typical for Summer. The streamer action still seems to be slow from what we’re hearing. Some patterns to try down there include: elk hair caddis, E/C caddis, razor caddis, parachute adams, chubby Chernobyl. zebra midge, flashback emerger, perdigon, psycho prince, micro stone, rainbow warrior and silver streak.
Also, some food for thought, in the Fish and Wildlife Departments infinite wisdom they have decided to not make barbless hooks mandatory on the East Walker, this is absolutely going to be detrimental to the life if this amazing river in the future, if you care at all about the East Walker and its sustainability, please pinch your barbs, if everyone adheres to this practice it will help the East Walker River to keep on being a world class fishery. Thanks for your consideration.

SCEIRINE RANCH
The ranch is still fishing well with lots of nice fish being caught up there. Most of the same patterns will work on the ranch as are working on the Cali side, maybe throw in a few squirmy worms and the like in pink and red.

HUNEWILL POND
Overall the pond fished excellent this week though we did have a couple windy days and we did have one report of the weeds being a problem for a couple of anglers. We had several other anglers out there who told us the weeds didn’t pose them any issues for them. Most of the action was still on small leech patterns and soft hackles though there were a few fish caught on dry/dropper rigs.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
The reservoir is still fishing well with fish up to 6.5lbs coming in this week. There is still a little bit of trolling action but most of the bite is fishing bait from boats. The Rainbow Point area is producing as well as the EW, Buckeye and Robinson channels. Baits that have been working include power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers, for trolling you can try speedy shiners, Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants.

KIRMAN LAKE
We had a couple reports from Kirman this week that were not too good, anglers were seeing fish cruising but couldn’t get any takers. We also had another report and the angler told us that the water temps were pretty high, in the mid 70’s or so, this is kind of leading me to feel like it might be best to let those fish have a rest for a couple months and maybe get back up there when the weather cools down a bit, likely after Labor Day or so.

TWIN LAKES
The Twins are still producing well with lots of fish being caught both trolling and still fishing. Trollers are using small Rapalas, speedy shiners, Thomas Bouyants and night crawlers while bait anglers are using power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated night crawlers. You can also have some success with minin jigs like Hook Up Baits and Sierra Slammers up there.

WEST WALKER RIVER
The flows on the west have come down to the 300 to 350 cfs range lately and we’re starting to get some better reports from up there. The current flow is a little bit much still for some anglers but there are definitely some good fish being caught. Small spinners like Panther Martins and Mepps are getting some fish and bait anglers are using power eggs, salmon eggs and night crawlers. Fly anglers can try prince nymphs, hare’s ear nymphs, copper johns and small wooly buggers near the bottom for some fish and as the flows come down the dry action with hoppers and ants should pick up.

VIRGINIA LAKES
The Virginias are still doing well with lures and bait as well as some flies. Lots of good fish are being caught up there and the air temps are a bit cooler than down here near town. Bait anglers are using power bait, pinched crawlers and mice tails while lure anglers are using Kastmasters and Thomas Bouyants. Fly anglers can use mini leeches, soft hackles, zug bugs and Twin Lakes Specials for some action.
