EAST WALKER RIVER

The EW is flowing at about 232 cfs right now. The water temps are starting to get up there pretty high but so far it seems as though the fish are still pretty feisty and releasing with plenty of energy. The mornings and late evenings are going to be the best time to fish with the mid-day time frame being the best time to give the river a rest. They’re still eating caddis nymphs, small midge patterns and some dry flies the best down there. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the water temperatures and the fishes health and we will let you know if/when it comes to a time to let the river rest until the weather cools down. Some patterns to try: buckskin caddis, Fox’s poopah, perdigon, silver streak, picky eater, pheasant tail, elk hair caddis, E/C caddis, parachute adams, chubby chernobyl.

Also, some food for thought, in the Fish and Wildlife Departments infinite wisdom they have decided to not make barbless hooks mandatory on the East Walker, this is absolutely going to be detrimental to the life if this amazing river in the future, if you care at all about the East Walker and its sustainability, please pinch your barbs, if everyone adheres to this practice it will help the East Walker River to keep on being a world class fishery. Thanks for your consideration.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The Sceirine has been fishing well this past week, as with the California side it has warmed up a bit but the fish are still very healthy. If it comes down to it we may have to stop bookings on the ranch for a few weeks, we’ll let you know if that happens.

HUNEWILL POND

We didn’t have any anglers on the pond this week but they are still keeping up with the mowing program to keep the weeds at bay and we’ll let you know as soon as we have some intel out there.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

Bridgeport is still fishing very well with lots of good numbers of fish being caught, there are still some folks trolling though most anglers have switched to bait fishing up in the channels and over near Rainbow Point. The perch are making more of a showing lately than they were a couple weeks ago, mostly from the trollers. The best things to troll seem to be Thomas Bouyants, speedy shiners and night crawlers and for bait it’s been power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers.

KIRMAN LAKE

We didn’t hear any news from Kirman this week but I feel like it’s still going to be a bit warm up there and it’s probably best to give those fish a rest until later in the season when the water cools down.

TWIN LAKES

We didn’t hear about any browns this week at the Twins but there are still lots of nice rainbows being caught, as well as some good Kokanee. Trolling has been pretty good with speedy shiners, Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants and bait angling has been good with pinched crawlers, mice tails, power bait and inflated crawlers. Folks are catching good numbers of fish both from the shore and from boats.

WEST WALKER RIVER

The West is still producing decent numbers of fish with bait like salmon eggs, power eggs and mini night crawlers and lures like Mepps, Panther Martin and Roostertail spinners. Fly anglers are having some success with hopper/dropper rigs and some small attractor nymphs on the bottom.

VIRGINIA LAKES

THe Virginias are still producing lots of fish for bait anglers as well as fly and lure anglers. For lures try Thomas Bouyants, Kastmasters and mini jigs, for bait go with garlic power bait, mice tails and pinched crawlers. Fly anglers can try wooly buggers, Twin Lakes Specials, mini leeches, pheasant tails and soft hackles.
