The shore bite has fully kicked off at Pyramid and the action remains consistent throughout the day. The best windows for fishing being from sunup until 1:00 and then from 3:00 to dark. We are seeing some good numbers right now, with the average angler catching 3-6 fish a day, and good odds of finding a couple over 10 pounds. When fishing out here Wednesday, we saw 2-3 around 10lbs, 2 around 14lbs, and the biggest of the day at 17lbs. All on our beach alone! As the shore bite starts up, the crowds have been very light thus far, but we expect that to change quickly, maybe as soon as this holiday weekend. In recent years, it appears that the month of November has become just as consistent as the prime months of spring in terms of a great shore bite, just a bit shorter lived, perhaps. The indicator and strip bite have been neck and neck, with maybe a few less found on the strip, but the average size being greater. When fishing under the indo, we have been setting out depths to around 7-10 feet with little adjustment, just keep the flies down there, be patient and remain ready. We have been almost exclusively fishing leeches right now, and trending towards darker shades, like black or brown. For stripping, the classic bugger beetle combo has been working. We also saw some really nice fish caught on some standard river streamers like olive sculpin patterns, so don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit out here. We also want to note that we used the new Rio Lake Chucker line for the first time this week and were certainly impressed by how it performed. Especially when the wind kicked up and made the casting tough. Pyramid Fly Co. worked with Rio to develop a specific line to meet the needs of a Pyramid bobber junkie, and we think they knocked it out of the park! If you’re in the market for a new switch line for Pyramid, we have it in stock both online or in here the store. We are also well stocked in sinking lines, rods, reels, flies, and all other tackle needed for a successful day out here, not to mention insight from our staff who fish this lake religiously. So stop in or give us a call to get the very latest from the salty pond.
