Los Vaqueros Fishing Report

Los Vaqueros Reservoir - Livermore, CA (Contra Costa County)

Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz trolled Los Vaqueros Reservoir on 12/19/24, searching mainly for Rainbow Trout. It was a cold damp day with a surface water temperature of 56.5 degrees. The fishing was slow, but we managed to catch 4 fish, including a small Largemouth Bass in Cox Cove and three Rainbow Trout at the back of Howden Cove. The fish were all caught in very shallow water some 8-10 feet below the surface. The largest of the Rainbows was a Mt. Lassen Trout, pictured here with Al, weighing about 1.5  pounds. It was caught with a 1/4 oz. wobbling spoon with Power Eggs attached to a single Mustad Ultra Point Hook and trolled on lead line 10 feet below the water’s surface. The two other Rainbows were smaller DFG’s, both nonetheless striking pretty hard. The DFG’s and the Largemouth Bass were all caught flat line trolling a Jointed Rapala Husky Jerk Hard Bait.
All in all a slow day, but as the aggressive Trout plants continue, trollers can expect improving results in the days and weeks ahead.
We appreciate all the help from the staff in getting us on and off the water.

Happy holidays,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
