Still need volunteers for Kids' Fishing Derby
by Don Quilici
5-17-2007
There is still a need for more additional volunteers to help with the annual Kids' Fishing Derby which will be held at Lampe Park in Gardnerville on June 2-3.
Those volunteers are needed to support the many different activities of that huge two-day event, which will involve a total of 2,400 youngsters.
Among the activities that require volunteers are:
Manning the registration desk for each session.
Selling doughnuts and hot coffee in the mornings.
Supplying "loaner" fishing poles and reels to youngsters who don't have their own equipment.
Baiting the youngsters' fishing hooks.
Manning the entry gates.
Untangling lines, snarls or snags during the derby.
Netting fish.
Cleaning the trout after they are caught.
Manning the prize table.
Working in the snack wagon selling food and drinks. Cooking hamburgers and hot dogs.
If you would like to volunteer your services, call either Trent Dowell at 267-2724 or Steve Hamilton at 782-0742 or Pam Rodrigues at 265-1795.?Į

5-17-2007Here is your annual Don Q reminder of a very special, outdoor event sneaking up around the corner. And, in my less-than-humble opinion, this huge event is one of the many heart-warming reasons why this general area is such a special place to live. What is it? Heck, the answer is easy: It's the annual Kids' Fishing Derby. Through many years, that derby is something that has been enjoyed by many tens of thousands of people. And I guarantee that......
