The LO remains flowing at 115 cfs. How much longer these ideal conditions will last is the big question. Repair work is being done on the power house and it has been taking longer than expected so we are benefiting from the low flows for sure. When at last the work is completed, you can expect some tough conditions for an extended period as Crowley is as full pool.
The dry fly action has been great most afternoons fishing BWO and caddis adults. I am seeing plenty of little golden stones and some large drake mayflies as well. The fish are really keying on these emergences and fishing can be slow during the off hatch periods at times. Nymphing with PT's and birds nest patterns will work well during the off hatch periods. Crystal caddis larva fished right on the bottom has also been steady for nymphing. The water and air temps are warmer in the Owens Valley and the weather has been beautiful recently, however you can expect some strong gusty winds with a definite cooling trend for this weekend. Drifting has been good overall with the fish hitting streamer patterns in the #8-14 range. I suggest you start out with a Spruce-A-Bu in the morning and switch to a Punk Perch dark, or light around noon.
The above photo is Stan "the man" Reynolds with a very nice Lower Owens River brown he fooled while fishing with Sierra Drifters on a drift boat trip.
