I think I've made it through the dog days of August. Morning lows in the Hirsch are in the high 30's once again. Bring a jacket if you start early. You'll be in the shade and in the wind early morning anywhere in the canyons. Both sides are fishing well. The prolific hatches of early summer are gone. Not as many bugs on the menu, but that will change as we transition into fall. Right now, crayfish, stones, hoppers, baetis, and some caddis. Hopper dropper rigs have been very effective lately picking nice fish out of shallow water. It's also a very good time to pick the streamer rod up again. Now through fall you can get some big fish to chase if you stay committed to the game. A nice brown from today, and some photos from this week.
