What could be better for serious anglers and recreational fishermen alike than trout season opening day at their favorite local lake? Three opening days amongst five lakes throughout San Bernardino County! November 1-3, hundreds of anglers and their families will visit San Bernardino County Regional Parks' lakes in Ontario, Yucaipa, Chino, Victorville, and Devore.

To sweeten the deal, all lakes will be stocked with Nebraska Tailwalker Rainbow Trout - big fish with a lot of fight. According to Chaulk Mound Trout Ranch in Bridgeport, Nebraska, where the tailwalkers are bred, these fish are "triploid Kamloop Rainbow Trout." Triploid means they are sterile and do not produce eggs, and therefore the energy that is usually spent on reproduction is instead used to build up muscle and allows them to grow faster than other varieties of Rainbow Trout.

The special fish get the name "tail walker" from their own unique "dance" when they are reeled in. According to the breeder's website, these big fish "give a fight while being reeled in, giving the angler an adrenaline rush never experienced with a Rainbow Trout."

"We staggered the openings at the parks so our loyal anglers don't have to choose only one lake for opening day, but have the opportunity to fish several fully-stocked lakes at the start to what promises to be a great season," said Keith Lee, San Bernardino County Regional Parks' Director.

The county will begin stocking the lakes before the season openers, and will continue weekly through April 2013.

If this sounds like a great day fishing with friends and family, you can visit all the parks during this opening weekend:

Thursday, November 1: Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park (Ontario)
Friday, November 2: Yucaipa Regional Park, Prado Regional Park (Chino),and Mojave Narrows Regional Park (Victorville)
Saturday, November 3: Glen Helen Regional Park (Devore)

The parks open at 7:30 a.m. Entrance to the parks is $8 per vehicle weekdays, $10 weekends; a fishing permit is $8 per person for all ages. California State Fishing regulations apply and a State fishing license must be obtained before visiting the parks. No State licenses are sold at the parks.
