The best fishing at Baum Lake is found along the deeper sections of the lake.

Current Lake Conditions: Callibaetis hatches happen mid day and a few fish can be found feeding off the surface eating duns and emergers. You will find some sections of the lake are weedy. The weeds get thick by mid summer and that does limit fishable water. Baum lake has a lot of rainbow trout in it and cold clean water makes for healthy conditions all adding up to what is a great choice for a day of fly fishing, any day. Best flies can be nymphs suspended under small indicators. The associated nymph section to the right lists a number of solid possibilities. Grab a few and go!
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: Fish midges all day! Look for occasional hatches of BWO's and PMD's that produce surface feeding and dry fly opportunities before the sun...get's high. In the sky! Seriously! Stripping and retrieving Leeches on intermediate sinking lines is a great tactic as is suspending #22 black Zebra Midges or Mercer's Gidget under a small indicator. Try a black A.P. on a slow retrieve. There are a lot of scuds in Baum Lake, making various scud patterns an obvious choice. Suggested leader selection consists of 9' 5x and a spool of 6X tippet for dry flies and the smallest nymphs.
Baum Lake is an ideal fishing destination for pontoon boats, float tubes and small prams.
Fishing an Intermediate sinking line with a small PT nymph can produce a bent fly rod. The key is SLOW strips! Nothing in Baum Lake is moving fast. Use lighter, longer leaders. Delicate dry-fly presentations will produce more strikes.

for Sunday, July 28th, 2013Fall River: The Hex hatch is almost over on the Fall River, will the fishing in August & September continue?
Hat Creek: No big changes on Hat Creek this week, again! Fishing conditions are good
Klamath River - Upper - CA: Great fishing is elusive on the Klamath through the dog days of summer.
Sacramento River: Fishing on the Lower Sac has been fair for some, tough for others.
McCloud River: The McCloud River is producing a really fun fly fishing experience!
Pit River: You will find good fishing on the Pit River, but expect to move around for best results
Trinity River: Fishing on the Trinty River has been pretty good, but we expect better fishing later
Sacramento River: Upper Sac fishing can be amazing early in the morning. Tough mid-day. Great again near sunset.

for Friday, July 19th, 2013Fall River: The Hex hatch is still going on Fall River
Hat Creek: A good time to fish at Hat Creek is at sundown
Klamath River - Upper - CA: Fishing is fair to "not so good" for steelhead and 1/2 pounders on the Klamath.
Sacramento River: The best time to fish the Lower Sac is either in the mornings or before sunset
McCloud River: The McCloud has been fishing great.
Pit River: You will find good fishing on the Pit, but expect to move around
Trinity River: Fishing is good on the Trinity River, both Steelhead & Salmon are being caught
Sacramento River: Best fishing on the Upper Sac happens in the AM hours and tapers after 12:00 PM.
Baum Lake: The weeds are making it tough to fish at Baum Lake
Iron Canyon Reservoir: The fishing at Iron Canyon Reservoir is not bad, not great.
Keswick Reservoir: Fishing on the Keswick Reservoir is poor, the flows need to increase
McCumber Reservoir: The fishing has been tough due to long warm summer days.
Lewiston Lake: Lewiston has some seriously big rainbows here. Some go well over 22".
Manzanita Lake: The best fishing at Manzanita Lake happens in the morning.
