The water temperature has dropped to the mid 60's. Boats can launch, and there are boat ramps and docks in the water at the state park marina, First Point and Rainbow Cove. Fishing action is fair, and it seems to be improving each week as the water gets cooler.

During the next few weeks, anglers should start to see some good fishing for cutthroat trout and lake trout. Right now, try fishing in 80-150 feet of water along the east side of the lake. A few anglers have caught fish off the deep side of the rockpile in 85-95 feet of water.

Try flatfish or minnow lures with rattles and troll them behind downriggers at 1.5-2.0 miles per hour. Remember, in order to keep a cutthroat trout from Bear Lake, it must have a healed fin clip (usually the adipose fin). Cutthroat trout with all fins intact must be released.
