Striped bass have been somewhat elusive for some anglers, as the fish don't seem to be following their usual habits. Just when a person thinks they have a feel for what the fish are doing they change things up. Be flexible with each outing and ready with various lure and bait options. Variety is the key to enticing these fish. Jigging spoons in about 50 feet of water has worked near the mouth of canyons. Those anglers who have been able to find and catch shad also have found good success. With the new moon on Nov. 3 anglers can expect the night bite to improve; for best results fish under a light. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are hitting on hard plastics and crankbaits. They can be found toward the back of coves in water as shallow as six inches.
