SCOFIELD RESERVOIR: (November 15) On Nov. 10, Carter Simpkins of Price caught an 18.3-pound tiger trout from the shore. Carter's fish was just short of the state record of 19.125-pound tiger that Jake Trane set at Scofield earlier this year. On Nov. 9, Kevin Albrecht reported seeing an angler catch a 34-inch tiger trout, which is just a few inches short of Jake Trane's 37.5-inch record. Kevin and another angler caught seven cutthroat trout, including one 5-pound fish.
On Nov. 2, Scofield State Park Manager Jonathan Hunt reported excellent fishing. He had caught more than 50 trout while trolling. Many of the trout were in the 18- to 21-inch size class. That same weekend, Aquatics Biologist Calvin Black reported good fishing for cutthroat trout. He used Rapalas, spoons and jigs and fished either by trolling or casting toward the shore. Black predicts that fishing will be good until the reservoir ices over; which will probably be around Thanksgiving. Jim Levanger of Scofield Snack and Pack recommends using the Storm Jr. ThunderStick. He says that orange and chartreuse should be the best bait, jig or crankbait color.
